‘Made in Walthamstow’
motion graphics
CONCEPTThe film explores the legacies of football, fashion and art, and we wanted the motion graphics to reflect it.
What better than going straight to the source?
Early explorations played with overlaying collages to evoke traditional print and textures. Arts and Crafts (the movement that W. Morris is associated with), Art Nouveau and its 60s revival, medieval prints made its way to the moodboards, looking for something contemporary but timeless.
Ultimately we decided to utilise just the Yare print out of the many Morris prints that were collected to almost treat the print as a character.

PRODUCTION
Modern methods evocative of heritage craft
Digitising the pattern and separating it in detail allowed different colour variants to be generated that reinforces the design throughout without looking repetitive. This process was also in spirit of the woodblock printing production technique of this work.
For the interviewee introduction cards we wanted to do something that deviated away from standard lower thirds. Evolving on from the fashion theme of the documentary, we looked at creating custom "couture" labels for each interviewee instead, inspired by labels used by couture houses for runway pieces.
